Belgian artist Joël Moens de Hase’s photomosaics capture a digital, hyper-connected world. Reminiscent of pixel art and pointillism, de Hase incorporates thousands of found photographs into his work to represent the oversaturation of image, advertisement, and erotica that society confronts on a daily basis. Women are central to his art, demonstrating depth and complexity in his desire to present images of strong and sexually liberated women. The viewer can look at the background of photographic fragments of female curves or the foreground image of a face or body. Using a computer, software, and images sourced from fashion photos, advertisements, mail-order catalogues, electronic periodicals, and websites, he creates his works through the process of cropping and composing images until he can visualize the work as a whole. De Hase became known for his photo mosaics in 2011.
