Stéphane Gubert has successfully moved his practice from the streets into the gallery setting. As a youngster, he began by painting on his bedroom walls, then moved onto real exterior locations before graduating to fine art with a recognizable pop twist. He cites as his influences Roy Lichtenstein, Hervé Télémaque, Erro, Jean Dubuffet, and Valerio Adami. You may recognize his famous comic book characters, but on closer inspection, you will find broader references from popular culture: television, movies, and graffiti. His works continually challenge us, asking us where we stand in relation to pop iconography and consumer consciousness.
