About:
The Linyanti River is a sanctuary in Botswana’s dry season, a ribbon of life winding through parched land. From my small boat, I watched as a bull elephant entered the channel, intent on crossing its waters. I knew I had only moments to position myself before he disappeared to the far bank.
I reached him in time, switching off the engine so that silence reclaimed the river. He stopped, lifted his head, and fixed his gaze directly upon me. Ears spread wide, his presence was unmistakable — immense, commanding, undeniable. Even immersed in water, he carried himself with the same gravity as when he walks the land: sovereign, unchallenged, entirely at home.
Through my lens, I captured that fleeting instant — power and elegance in perfect balance. Soon after, I eased away, giving him the river as his own. It was an encounter brief in time, but eternal in memory.
