One Luna and Monarch - Hunt Slonem

One Luna and Monarch is an original oil painting by Hunt Slonem, presented in a gold frame. The title brings together a luna moth and a monarch butterfly, two of the winged subjects Slonem has returned to throughout his career.

Butterflies and moths are among Slonem's best-known themes, alongside his rabbits and tropical birds. Here his fast, confident brushwork and thick layers of oil paint stand up from the surface and catch the light, giving the wings a vivid, almost tactile presence. At 87 × 76 cm, this is a substantial work with real impact on the wall, and as an original painting it is entirely one of a kind. About the artist Hunt Slonem (b. 1951) is an American painter best known for his exuberant depictions of rabbits, butterflies and tropical birds. His work is held in major museum collections, including the Guggenheim, the Whitney and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and is sought after by collectors worldwide.
