Broya by René Romero Schuler

Broya” (2026) is an original oil on canvas by René Romero Schuler, measuring 50.8cm x 40.6cm (20" x 16"). Schuler builds her canvases with trowels and palette knives in thick, sculptural layers of paint, and her striking figures explore identity and the search for ground. Her approach draws on the Bay Area Figurative Movement of the 1950s and ’60s. At this size, the work is a more accessible way to collect her figurative painting.

Born in Chicago in 1968, Schuler began her career in interior design and decorative painting before devoting herself to fine art. Her work is held in museum collections and has been shown from Chicago to Paris, including at Art Miami and EXPO Chicago.
