So I applauded him from behind my painted grin, recognising a fellow soul carrying impossible expectations beneath impossible disguises.
When the tent finally emptied and the lights surrendered to darkness, we removed nothing except our applause, for the masks had become our skin.
If there is a greater whole, it is not found in perfect heroes or perfect clowns, but in the fragile moment two hidden hearts recognise each other without ever asking to see the face beneath
